The Evolution of the AK Platform
For more than 75 years, the Kalashnikov platform has earned a reputation for unmatched reliability under the harshest conditions imaginable. Its proven operating system has served military, law enforcement, and civilian shooters around the world with a level of durability few firearm designs have ever achieved.
The AK-20 platform represents Arsenal’s vision for the next generation of the Kalashnikov system.
Rather than redesigning the Kalashnikov operating system from the ground up, Arsenal focused on modernizing the systems that matter most to today’s shooter, suppressor compatibility, modularity, optics integration, serviceability, and barrel support, while preserving the proven operating principles that have made the AK legendary.
Developed in the Arsenal Custom Shop, the AK-20 platform introduces a new front-end architecture that combines Arsenal’s renowned craftsmanship with purpose-driven engineering. The result is a premium AK platform designed to offer greater adaptability, improved consistency, and enhanced shooting performance while maintaining the legendary reliability shooters have trusted for generations.
Every AK-20 series firearm is individually assembled, inspected, and test-fired by experienced Arsenal technicians before leaving our facility.
The AK-20 Philosophy
The AK platform has earned its reputation through simplicity, reliability, and durability.
Those qualities remain unchanged.
Instead of reinventing the Kalashnikov operating system, Arsenal examined every component that influences how modern shooters use the rifle today.
The result is the AK-20 platform, a comprehensive modernization focused on improving suppressor compatibility, modularity, optics integration, serviceability, and barrel support while preserving the rugged dependability that has defined the AK for generations.
The SAS M7K is one of the latest additions to Arsenal’s growing AK-20 family, a modern firearm platform that continues to expand with multiple rifle and pistol configurations across various calibers, barrel lengths, and receiver styles.

Built Around the Receiver
Every great firearm begins with a solid foundation.
The AK-20 platform is built on Arsenal’s U.S.-manufactured precision milled receiver, machined from a solid steel forging rather than stamped sheet metal. This construction provides exceptional rigidity, outstanding durability, and the premium fit and finish that have become synonymous with Arsenal firearms.
Combined with the AK-20 platform’s redesigned front-end architecture, the milled receiver provides a solid foundation for a modern fighting rifle built to withstand years of demanding use.
Arsenal Cold Hammer-Forged Barrel
Every AK-20 series firearm features an Arsenal-manufactured cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel.
Cold hammer forging has long been recognized for producing barrels with exceptional durability, long service life, and consistent performance under demanding conditions. Combined with a chrome-lined bore and chamber, the barrel offers outstanding corrosion resistance while maintaining the reliability expected from an Arsenal firearm.
The AK-20 platform builds upon this proven foundation by incorporating a true free-floating barrel architecture designed to minimize external influence on barrel movement.
True Free-Floating Barrel System
Traditional AK handguards attach directly to the barrel assembly, allowing external pressure from accessories, barricades, or support positions to influence barrel movement.
The AK-20 platform eliminates this limitation.
Its lightweight aluminum handguard mounts directly to the redesigned gas block rather than the barrel, allowing the barrel to remain truly free-floating throughout firing.
This architecture minimizes external influence on barrel harmonics while improving consistency and thermal stability during extended shooting sessions.
The result is a shooting platform designed to deliver repeatable, enhanced accuracy without compromising the durability for which Arsenal firearms are known.
The AK-20 Adjustable Gas System
At the heart of the AK-20 is Arsenal’s proprietary three-position adjustable gas system.
Rather than relying on a single gas setting for every operating condition, the AK-20 system allows the shooter to configure the firearm for specific ammunition types and intended applications.
Right Position — MIL-STD Mode
Designed for standard high-velocity ammunition, this is the firearm’s default operating mode.
The system provides full gas operation and is intended for use with or without a suppressor, delivering the reliable cycling characteristics expected from the Kalashnikov platform.
Left Position — SUB Mode
Optimized for suppressed subsonic ammunition while maintaining normal gas operation.
This setting provides reliable semi-automatic cycling with suppressed subsonic ammunition, offering reduced sound signature while preserving standard firearm operation.
Center Position — Quiet Mode
Designed for the quietest possible suppressed shooting experience.
In this position, the gas system is turned off, eliminating automatic cycling. Whether using subsonic or supersonic ammunition, the firearm operates as a manually cycled system, significantly reducing mechanical noise during firing.
The gas adjustment assembly can be adjusted, or removed for maintenance, in seconds using nothing more than the tip of a cartridge, eliminating the need for specialized tools.
Suppressor Ready by Design
Suppressor use was a primary consideration throughout development of the AK-20 platform.
The adjustable gas system allows shooters to tailor the firearm’s operating characteristics to different ammunition types and suppressor applications while reducing unnecessary gas flow when appropriate.
Every AK-20 series firearm released to the public is individually verified for thread concentricity using Arsenal’s internal inspection procedures and precision gauging equipment as part of the manufacturing process.
Because suppressor alignment depends on both the firearm and the suppressor being used, Arsenal recommends verifying suppressor alignment prior to firing any suppressed firearm.
Designed for the Modern Shooter
The AK-20 platform combines traditional AK reliability with the modularity expected from today’s premium fighting rifles.
A rigid full-length Picatinny optics rail provides a stable mounting platform for red-dot sights, magnified optics, thermal devices, and night vision equipment while maintaining alignment with the receiver.
Integrated M-LOK® attachment points allow shooters to configure the firearm with mission-specific accessories while minimizing unnecessary weight and bulk.
The stock (or rear Picatinny attachment interface depending on model) and integrated ambidextrous QD sling sockets further enhance the platform’s versatility for professional users, suppressor enthusiasts, and serious AK shooters.
Built to Last
Durability has always been the defining characteristic of Arsenal firearms.
The AK-20 platform continues that tradition with an Arsenal cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel, precision-machined components, and a MIL-SPEC Black Cerakote® finish that provides outstanding resistance to wear, corrosion, and harsh environmental conditions.
Every component has been selected with long-term service life and dependable performance in mind.
Maintenance Without Compromise
Routine maintenance should never require unnecessary tools or complicated procedures.
The AK-20 gas system was engineered for simplicity.
The gas adjustment assembly may be adjusted or removed by rotating the regulator to its designated position and depressing the retaining pin using the tip of a cartridge or a standard cleaning tool.
Complete access to the gas system can be achieved in seconds, making routine maintenance fast, efficient, and field-friendly.
