Mil. Spec. Assault Rifle magazine testing Procedures
This test applies to the testing procedure in regards of strength for 30 round magazines made of polyamide, with cartridges of cal. 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm and 5.45x39:
Upon starting up the production, and in serial production, testing of the strength is carried out weekly in the following order:
On a random basis, one magazine to be tested together with the weapon (the assault rifle) and one magazine to be tested separately, are selected by calibers from the magazines that have passed Technical Acceptance.
1. Testing together with the assault rifle:
The selected magazine is loaded with 30 pcs. of dummy cartridges (in the respective caliber). Then it is attached to the rifle. The weapon, so prepared, is tested by dropping on a smooth surface in the following sequence:
-12 drops on the butt stock plate from 1.5m height/the distance is measured from the butt stock plate to the surface of the concrete area/.
-5 drops on the rifle muzzle from 1.5m height
-3 drops of the rifle in the horizontal position on the magazine from 1m height.
After performing this part of the test, the magazine is removed, the dummy cartridges unloaded, and the magazine is tested by firing 30 rounds with a technically accepted weapon of the respective caliber.
Mode of fire- 5 single shots/ the position of the fire selector at “1”/, and 25 shots in short burst of 3-5 shots/the position of the fire selector at “A”/.
Stoppages due to magazine fault are not allowed. It is permissible to have occurrence of cracks, dents, rubs, etc. on the magazine as long as it preserves its functionality.
2. Testing of the magazine separately from the weapon:
The magazine selected for this test is loaded with 30pcs. of dummy cartridges.
The loaded magazine is dropped on the flat concrete surface from 1m height 3 times on each side/on the two sides, on its bottom and on its upper part with the feed lips.
After the test, firing with a technically accepted weapon is carried out in the same order as described in paragraph 1. The elevation criteria are the same.
